‘Security upgrade’ spam emails

By Daniel McEwen

We are aware of a spam email that is currently in circulation that informs the recipient of a security upgrade to their mailing service.

The mail will be from an email address of (for example) notifications@{domain} where {domain} stands for the domain that is being used in the recipients email address.

The subject of the email is along the lines of:

“Dear user of the {domain} mailing service!

We are informing you that because of the security upgrade of the mailing service you mailbox ({your email account}) settings were changed. In order to apply the new set of settings click on the following link:”

The link will prompt the user to download and install software which is malware and can potentially disable firewalls, steal sensitive data, download components and provide remote access to a hacker.

DO NOT follow the link in these suspect emails. If you do receive an email of this type, delete it.

Service Issues

By Daniel McEwen

During yesterday afternoon (Monday 2nd November) at approximately 3.00pm a border firewall failed causing websites to be down and issues related to sending and receiving emails. A replacement fail over system was scheduled to be implemented prior to this but unfortunately the problem occurred before this was actioned.

The problem was identified and responded to quickly but the system then became unstable. Access to sites and email was intermittent so the implementation of a new set up firewalls was required.

The current firewall is now stable. There are further issues that need resolving at this stage which will be implemented this evening out of hours. We are currently not expecting any further down time but if this does occur the duration will be minutes rather than hours. Autosales Group – Website Redesign Launch

By Noah Back

Autosales Web Design

Autosales Ltd is one of the UK’s longest serving Skoda and Suzuki dealers with nearly 50 years experience in the motor trade.

With branches located throughout the West Midlands in Bilston, Burntwood and Cannock they supply a wide range of new cars and used cars.

Website Redesign
Autosales wanted to increase sales enquiries from their website and decided that a redesign was the best solution to achieve this. They asked us to keep the professional visual impact of the previous design, whilst incorporating strong eye catching ‘calls for action’ for the key areas of their car sales business.

The new website design would have to retain visual impact whilst being easy to use. By gathering information from colleagues and friends regarding the usability of the previous site, they were able to provide us with information on the areas that they wanted to improve and focus on.

The used cars search facility was also improved so as to make the search more intuitive, and allow visitors to easily find their perfect car from the comprehensive range of makes and models. Incorporating AJAX into the form allowed for real time updates to the selection boxes and summary information on the number of cars available for the selected search terms.

Website Design Requirements
In addition to improvements to the look and feel of the website, Autosales wanted more control over the textual content of the pages. We first discussed with them which elements of imagery and text content they wanted more control over.

Once this was confirmed we redeveloped our bespoke content management system to allow them to edit all the elements they needed. We also built upon the existing upload facility for adding car listing to the site and incorporated new features such as the ‘car of the week’ call for action on the home page.

We worked closely with Autosales throughout the development process and continue to support and provide advice on how the site can be enhanced further. Both Autosales and the members of our web design & development team are very pleased with the look and feel of the redesign.

IPP Services – New Website Launch

By Noah Back

IPP Services Web Design

IPP Services is a conveyor installation & maintenance company based in Stourport-on-Severn, West Midlands.

IPP Services originally approached us as they wanted their small 3 page website totally re-designed and expanded in size to promote their conveyor products & services.

The purpose of the re-design was to increase inquiries via the internet and create a stronger web presence. We created a professional eye catching web design which focuses on their brand, has an easy to use navigation and features attractive ‘calls for action’ for their services and contact details.

Search engine optimisation was an important element of the website redesign for IPP Services because they wanted to increase focused traffic and website inquiries. Working closely with them, we researched and advised as to which keywords the website should be focused around so as to promote their core conveyor products & services. Then we agreed an ongoing SEO package for a list of keywords, which involves continual monitoring of statistics and optimisation of the website both on-site and off-site.
